The problem with success and wealth is it throws you into the spotlight even if you do not want to be in it. Everyone thinks they know you or know of you. “My kid is in the same class as this kid and his father is the CEO of …….! Did you hear how much he made last year? That’s where the CEO of ….. lives.”
If people only knew the truth. We are struggling behind these walls. I promised my husband that I would keep his cancer a secret. We told a few people we trust and that’s it. It’s hard when people come up to me and want to talk about my husbands success or gossip about our lifestyle. I hate having to fake that everything is great when I am breaking to pieces inside. Sometimes I just want to scream “my husband has cancer and we are not sure he will survive.”
It is amazing how well we have built up this perception that everything is fine. COVID and “the work from home trend” has really helped my husband continue working full time while fighting for his life. The Business is doing great, better than ever. No one not even the press has noticed my husbands hair loss. Details are not easy to pick up on when you only meet on video or the telephone.
