Cancer is like a big scam. First you think you are going to die and then you don’t. You become a secret cancer survivor. Then it is time for your first check up and you have to relive everything again. The cancer is back.
Our check up did not go so well. Still keeping our cancer a secret from everyone, we find out that the cancer is back less than 3 months after the surgery. We decide to tell close family and a few friends. It is especially hard to tell your kids. “Daddy is sick and we don’t know if he will get better”. Things are tough.
We start a very aggressive form of chemotherapy called Gem/cis. The idea is my husband can still be cured. He does a few rounds but has to skip a few treatments because his white blood cells get hit too hard.
We are told somewhere in the middle of his treatment that he has suspicious nodules in his lungs. Making his cancer stage 4. How did we get from feeling like we dodged a bullet, to you have maybe six months to live? What do we do now?
