We met with the oncologist and things are looking good. I was so worried that he was going to discontinue treatment. I spent all week researching different therapy options. These options are not needed just yet. Feeling super thankful.
We are going to continue on Gem/cis but push the rounds a few weeks apart. So instead of my husband getting one round then another round, one week later, we are going to have two weeks until the next round. I am super relieved that his blood values and liver recovered, the way that they did.
Another positive, I was worried that because my husband had to skip so many treatments bc of his blood values, that the treatment was probably not going to work, but the oncologist said that sometimes when the chemo hits the good cells this hard, it also hits the bad cells just as hard. So even if he has to miss a few bc his good cells get knocked out doesn’t mean the cancer is growing. It could mean that the cancer cells are also getting hit just as hard.
I also asked if my husband could take low dose chemotherapy after his treatment is over, somewhere around Christmas. I read that taking low dose chemotherapy regularly has also helped patients control cancer progression. The doctor seemed positive to this idea.
Last but not least, we gave my husbands entire family a Christmas gift last year, a weeklong all expenses paid trip to the Canary Islands. We were super worried that we were going to have to cancel the trip because of cancer treatment but we got the ok. He can go and it will not effect his treatment what so ever. He just needs to be careful in the sun. It surprised me a little that the doctor said he could swim in the ocean and in the pools. I guess it all goes back to quality of life.
