Yesterday, my husband had 5 liters of fluid drained from his abdomen. I was shocked at what a difference it made. He seemed more like himself and looked more like himself. I just hope that his abdomen doesn’t fill up with fluid again. I have read a lot online about Ascites.
Things like, “last stage cancer” and “not much time left”, get thrown around a lot online, when reading about fluid build up. This scares me. Apparently, fluid build up or ascites, can be a sign that the liver is failing. My only hope is that my husbands liver recovers from the chemotherapy and that the fluid build up was caused by his treatments and not his cancer tumors.
He also started taking low dose chemotherapy that is supposed to keep his cancer from growing and thriving. The chemo pills are supposed to be easier on the liver. We really need a win right now, because the doctors will not even consider localized treatment. I assume they want to see if his liver will recover or not.
